Before you start lessons
You can start preparing for your theory test straight away by downloading
- our free trial theory test PC software or
- installing our free theory test app for Android mobile phones or tablets or
- installing our free theory test app for Apple mobile phones or tablets or
- registering for a free trial of our online Student Learning Hub
However, you cannot start your driving lessons until you have a provisional driving licence.
Obtaining a Provisional Driving Licence
You can obtain a provisional driving licence application form from LDC by clicking request provisional application form or calling our free phone 0800 400 777 or by visiting your local post office. Alternatively, if you want to apply direct click on DVLA online provisional licence application.
You can apply for your provisional car driving licence up to three months before your seventeenth birthday (however, it would not become valid until you were seventeen). Although you can start your driving lessons as soon as your provisional driving licence becomes valid, you cannot book the driving test until you have passed the theory test.
